This Firehouse concrete floor is being coated with an epoxy system, starting with a 3 mil primer coat of Tigerskin™, followed by two coats of Tigerbond™ 221 Ultra with Garon Grit™ 240 broadcasted for slip resistance, and optionally finished with a Hi-Gloss™ urethane coat for added slip resistance.

Walking on Safe Surfaces:

  • When walking, it's important to be aware of varying surface conditions. Many of us take for granted that the surfaces we walk on are safe, yet the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports numerous workplace accidents due to slip and fall incidents each year.
  • Surfaces can be slippery depending on various factors such as incline, speed, or weather conditions, making it essential to consider safety features on these surfaces.
  • Architects and safety engineers address these concerns by specifying anti-slip coatings or flooring materials to prevent accidents. Non-slip treatments are commonly applied to wood, concrete, tile, metal, and stairs, ensuring safer footing in places like kitchens, public buildings, and retail establishments.
  • These measures include abrasive stair treads, non-slip coatings, and adhesive anti-slip tape.
  • In construction, a broom finish on concrete can also provide traction, while rougher coatings are used in areas like docks and aircraft carriers. Pay attention to these safety features the next time you walk, as they play a crucial role in preventing falls.
