Transforming Firehouse Floors: A Step-by-Step Guide
A newly constructed 3,000 sq. ft. firehouse truck bay required a durable, slip-resistant, and easy-to-maintain floor coating. The goal was to protect the concrete from hydraulic fluids, oils, and frequent washdowns, while ensuring safety for firefighters in high-traffic conditions.

Step-by-Step Application Process

  1. Surface Preparation: Begin by cleaning the concrete slab to remove any debris, oils, or contaminants. This step ensures proper adhesion of the coating system.
  2. Primer Application: Apply a 3 mil coat of TIGERSKIN™ water-based epoxy sealer. This sealer penetrates the concrete, enhancing adhesion for subsequent layers.
  3. Base Coat: Apply two coats of TIGERBOND™ 221 ULTRA high-build epoxy. This base layer provides a durable foundation and is broadcasted with GARON GRIT™ 240 to enhance slip resistance.
  4. Topcoat: Finish with an optional HI-GLOSS™ urethane epoxy topcoat. This final layer offers additional protection against wear and enhances the floor's appearance.

Benefits of the Coating System

  • Durability: The multi-layer system withstands heavy traffic and exposure to harsh chemicals.
  • Safety: The slip-resistant surface reduces the risk of accidents in high-traffic areas.
  • Maintenance: The seamless surface simplifies cleaning and maintenance, ensuring a hygienic environment.
