Understanding the Challenge
Shower rooms require durable, waterproof flooring that can withstand constant moisture and foot traffic. Over time, concrete floors may crack, erode, or lose their integrity. For this repair, a high-performance epoxy system was used to restore both the floor and the perimeter cove areas, creating a seamless and long-lasting solution.
Step 1: Preparing the Surface
Before any product was applied, the existing concrete surface needed to be thoroughly cleaned and mechanically prepared. This included removing dirt, old coatings, and contaminants. Surface profiling ensured maximum adhesion for the epoxy materials.
Step 2: Reaparing Wall Perimeters with Decorpoxy™ Cove Mortar
The first product used was Decorpoxy™ Cove Mortar, specifically designed for vertical applications and cove base creation. This step reinforced the joint between the wall and floor, preventing water intrusion and creating a smooth transition.
- Mixed the mortar according to manufacturer instructions
- Troweled the mixture along the wall base to form a uniform cove
- Allowed proper cure time before moving on to the floor application
Step 3: Coating the Floor with Decorpoxy™
Once the perimeter was secure, the main floor was treated with Decorpoxy™, a heavy-duty epoxy coating that delivers chemical resistance and a slip-resistant finish ideal for wet environments.
- Blended the epoxy resin and hardener thoroughly
- Applied with a roller for even coverage across the floor
- Allowed to cure, forming a seamless, non-porous surface
