Transforming a Tech Lab Floor: A Step-by-Step Guide
A high-tech laboratory previously operated with bare concrete floors, posing challenges related to chemical exposure, abrasion, and maintenance. To address these issues, a desinous flooring system was implemented to meet stringent regulatory and operational requirements.

Step-by-Step Application Process

  1. Surface Preparation: The existing concrete surface was thoroughly cleaned to remove any contaminants, ensuring optimal adhesion for the new flooring system.
  2. Primer Application: A fast-track primer was applied using a 3/8-inch hair-nap roller. This primer penetrated the concrete slab's capillaries, enhancing adhesion for subsequent layers.
  3. Epoxy Coating: A single coat of 100% solids epoxy was applied at a nominal thickness of 62.5 mils. This "one-pass" technology allowed for extreme thickness in just one application, significantly reducing labor and time compared to traditional multi-coat methods.
  4. Topcoat Application: A chemical-resistant urethane topcoat was applied at 3-4 mils thickness. This topcoat provided superior abrasion and chemical resistance, essential for the demanding environment of a tech lab.
  5. Traction Enhancement: An aluminum oxide aggregate was incorporated into the topcoat to enhance traction, ensuring safety in high-traffic areas.

Benefits of the Flooring System

  • Durability: The multi-layer system provides long-lasting protection against wear and chemical exposure.
  • Efficiency: The one-pass application method reduces installation time and labor costs.
  • Safety: The enhanced traction surface minimizes slip hazards, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Compliance: The flooring system meets FDA, USDA, OSHA, and ADA standards, ensuring regulatory compliance.

Elevating Laboratory Standards
Implementing a high-performance flooring system not only enhances the functionality and safety of a tech lab but also contributes to the overall efficiency and longevity of the facility. This flooring solution exemplifies how tailored applications can address specific operational challenges, providing a durable and compliant surface for demanding environments.
