What’s happening in this video… This premier bakery facility has been in operation for many years with a bare concrete floor which was badly pitted and corroded from years of exposure to high heat and hot water wash downs.

The concrete floor surface was also slick in many areas.  The bakery facility owners required a resurfacer to repair and protect the damaged concrete floor in their production and oven rooms but didn’t know the types of flooring to accomplish this requirement.

The facility owners relied on the industrial flooring manufacturer [Garon Products Inc.] to guide them and specify the right floor coating to meet their requirements – bacteria fighting floors and antimicrobial floor coatings were under consideration in order to comply with FDA and OSHA standards.

Frequently asked questions about repairing and coating bakery floors in a 24/7 production facility…

What are some challenges for facilities that can’t fully shut down operations?

The bakery owners were limited to a 48-hour shutdown time-frame and had to continue dough production and oven bread baking in adjacent areas of this bakery floor renovation while the specified hybrid food safety flooring system was being installed to accommodate client delivery schedules which could not be interrupted.

Food & Drink Flooring – Commercial Kitchen Flooring Specification

Flooring’s in bakery facilities often have extreme environmental conditions between the hot ovens and the normal production processes.  Epoxy flooring would not hold up under these conditions. Therefore, specifying the right concrete flooring system and holding to installation time frames was critical.

With a new piece of equipment that needed immediate installation after the completion of the bakery concrete floor coating application, timing and the right floor coating material specification had to be seamless through all phases of the bakeries newly applied floor.

Bakery Flooring Solution

Coordinating the bakery crews in concert with the installation crew while maintaining a high level of  communication between both parties was key.

The system specified by the floor coating manufacturer in order to accommodate completion within the owner’s time frame was a self leveling, rapid setting floor coating system.

The Floor Coating Results

In less than 48 hours, this custom dough and bread oven baking facility had a new USDA, OSHA and ADA compliant floor without interruption to the bakery’s production schedule or revenue generation and the bakery was back in business.
